Happenings all over the net!

Date December 3, 2009

There have been all sorts of things going on, and I haven’t had time to write about any of them because I’ve been too busy taking part in some.

First, the SysAdvent Blog is up again this year and actively posting messages. We’ve had thee entries by three different people so far. Now THAT’S what I call progress! Thanks, everyone, for reading it and thank you to everyone who has thus far contributed an entry. There are still available slots, so if you feel like writing, please do it and send it in!

Second, a while back, my column editor Michael Francis came to me with an ad campaign that his company was working on, and asked for my input. The final product is done now, and it’s up at YouTube. The ad is for an exchange archiving solution, and it’s very quirky. I had a very small part to play in it, but it’s still neat to see it in action. In the interest of full disclosure, Red Gate sort of indirectly pays me to write for them, but they’re not paying for this link, or anything. I just think it’s neat that something I worked on is now a youtube video :-)

Also, tonight is the LOPSA-NJ meeting. The New Jersey LOPSA chapter is going to witness an “earthshattering annoucement” tonight, and I can’t wait. I just happen to be privy, and it’s going to be a great thing. I’ll write more about it tomorrow when it’s common knowledge. Very fun.

Also, I mentioned before that I had signed a book deal. That’s coming along well, and I’m actively writing it now, and the entire manuscript should be handed in before June, 2010.

Busy is better than not, right? :-D

Sorry, I can’t make it to the meeting tonight. I’m donating blood at 5:30 (RBC and double Plts). Oh yeah, and I’m in Chicago! :-) I don’t think we have an active chapter here. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Oh pshaw, what’s 800 miles on a lovely day like today? ;-)

I don’t think you’re incorrect. There aren’t a lot of LOPSA local chapters, but it is something that the LOPSA board is trying to encourage. If you or anyone you know would be interested in starting one, I know they’d be happy to get you all of the members local to your area.

Didn’t you have over working problems that nearly killed you?

Water under the bridge, my good man!

I’m doing stress management things. Like

    A) not taking it too seriously. I can’t stop and let it overwhelm me, so I look at everything about a week at a time.

    B) painting. I’m not good. In fact, I’m bad, but it’s neat to do, and sort of zen.

    C) exercise. Amy and I have been going to the gym just about every day. I used to go in the morning, but I’ve been getting up at 6:30 to write instead, so we go in the evenings after I get home.

    D) Luck. It helps a lot that we’re not crunched at work right now. If we were, unfortunately, the writing would have to get shoved aside. I still get paid more to play with computers than to write about them. Sadly.
