Well, I'm officially a member of the LOPSA Board of Directors now. And it's entirely thanks to you all.
Just as a reminder (and I'm sure that this particular warning will get tiresome, but I'm going to include it for a while until it's rote), I am not speaking for LOPSA when I write about LOPSA. My views are my own.
We had our annual Face to Face meeting in Princeton, NJ a couple of weekends ago, and spent two days hashing out some pretty good questions. It was really an enjoyable experience. As I said in my candidate statement, I really do like and respect these folks and spending the weekend together really brings that home.
As you can see on the LOPSA site, the Dan Rich has moved from Vice President to President and Ski Kacoroski is the new Vice President. Ski is continuing as the Communications Chair, and I'm working with him on that. I'll also be doing work on the Membership Committee and the Education Committee.
On the Communications Committee, I'll be working with, obviously, communications, but also marketing efforts. I'm already getting my hands dirty in LOPSAgram stuff and I'm going to be digging into the social media presence shortly. It's a good thing that I've got a lot of friends in the marketing space thanks to Tech Field Day. I'm sure I'll be relying on their advice for a little while, but since LOPSA hasn't really had a concerted, focused marketing effort, I think almost any change will be an improvement.
I'm also on the Membership Committee, along with fellow new Board member Mike Julian. The biggest problem with LOPSA membership is member retention, and it's something that needs to be addressed quickly. Some of the non-renewals are probably related to a perceived lack of relevance, and we're fixing that in other ways, but we need to do what we can to make sure that, all other things being equal, it's as easy to renew as possible.
It's going to be a very busy two year term, but I believe that by the time this term has run its course, things will be a lot better. Thanks for electing me so that I have this chance.
In the meantime, if you need anything, feel free to get ahold of me here, or at my shiny new email address, [email protected]. Thanks!
